Savour Stratford Perth County Culinary Festival

  • by

Savour Stratford Perth County Culinary Festival is set for September 26
& 27. This Culinary Festival is a celebration of the best of the Perth
County food producers, local chefs and alumni of the Stratford Chefs
School, artisans, music and visual artists over two days of outdoor food
markets, tented dining and tastings, concerts and culinary learning at
the height of the harvest season. ” Savour Stratford is the most
intimate and delicious food celebration of its kind in Ontario. I loved
it!” is how Margaret Webb , author, Apples to Oysters, describes the
festival.

Renowned Canadian chefs, Jamie Kennedy (JK Kitchens), Jonathan Gushue
(Grande Relais, Langdon Hall) and Jeff Crump (Earth to Table) join local
chefs and alumni of the Stratford Chefs School for an afternoon of
tasting with local producers at the Savour Stratford Tasting on Sunday
from 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm. Thirty “culinary duos” offer up delicious,
de-local, de-waste-free samples in a casually elegant and intimate
setting under lounging tents on York Street accompanied by Ontario VQA
wines and local craft beers. Musical entertainment during the tasting
will include a Stratford duo, Mike McConville and Drew Burrell
performing hit latin instrumentals along with some originals.

Two events take place in the tent on York Street on Saturday. The
Stratford Perth Museum presents “Flavours of Perth” Pork Roast  with
fresh steamed corn on the cob from the Museum’s steam engine, potato
salad, coleslaw, rolls, homemade pie and beer or wine complete this
local menu with seatings beginning  at 5:00pm.  Barbeque, Blues and
Brews picks up the tempo and takes over at 9:00 pm.  Kick back with
Jordan John & The Blues Angels.  This Rock and Roll hall of famer and
his son entertain with some infectious Blues, Funk, Soul and R&B tunes
as you sample craft beers, pork charcuterie and barbeque.  A world music
flair will also be enjoyed as Jackie Robitaille entertains.

New in 2009 is the Stratford Chefs School Learning Centre where
high-profile chefs, authors and industry experts present demonstrations
and taste experiences.  James Beard award-winning authors Jennifer
McLagan, author of “Fat” and Naomi Duguid, author of “Hot Sour Salty
Sweet” and Perth County’s own Manic Organic, Antony John are among the
presenters at the festival.

Families will enjoy the festive atmosphere that welcomes you to the York
Street Carnivale of sidewalk cafes, music and buskers presented by the
York Street merchants. At the Monforte Kids’ Tent there are lots of
activities for our youngest foodies. Cooking demonstrations,
food-related literacy fun with the Stratford Public Library and a play
area is provided by the Early Years Centre. Musical artists entertain
from the bandshell Saturday from 9:00 am – 8:00 pm and on Sunday from
12:00 noon – 6:00 pm.

Wander the farmers and artisans markets for the best of the season,
relax in the beer tent to the music from the bandshell, bid on culinary
products and savour tasty treats from the Community barbeques. Purchase
tickets to the special celebrations under the tent and enjoy the best of
the county in Stratford’s historic downtown shopping and garden
district.
