Where to stay in Philipsburg, Sint Maarten?
Many hotels and guesthouses in Philipsburg are back to normal, after the year of renovations from the devastating hurricanes Irma and Maria that hit the island in September 2017.
The Top choices on the island are the The Pasanggrahan Royal Boutique Hotel and The Holland House, both located on Front street. Hotels offer excellent location close to the beach and all day entertainment – shopping, bars, restaurants, casino and museums.
The Pasanggrahan Royal Boutique Hotel
Established in 1904, the ‘Pasanggrahan’ – which means guesthouse in Indonesian, has a rich and colourful history. It has been a rooster farm, a governor’s residence and a residence for the Dutch Royal family. It stands proudly as the oldest hotel on Sint Maarten and still retains its West-Indies colonial style.
Along with Fort Amsterdam and the Courthouse, the Pasanggrahan is one of St. Maarten’s landmarks and last bastions of European and Caribbean culture. Recently, the hotel has been officially chosen as the home of the St. Maarten Classic Yacht Club.

If you are traveling on a tight budget and the priority is to visit as many places, other great places offer rooms for a good price and located close to the beach and all the shopping. Philipsburg is stretched along the beach, so most of the places that offer hotel or guesthouse service are within reasonable distance from the ocean.
Joshua Rose Guest House
Four-story Contemporary Island Guesthouse is situated in heart of the town, walking distance to the beach. The Guesthouse is owned by a local family in its third generation, for many it has become home away from home. Liked by Caribbean visitors due to reasonable rates, great location and friendly atmosphere. There is a shared kitchen where you can fix a simple meal, rooms are equipped with fridges and there is variety store on the ground floor selling drinks and snacks.

The two apartments (Colosseo and Navona) both have two floors (duplex) with a very modern design with a Caribbean touch. On the first floor, both apartments offer a fully equipped kitchen, living room with a king sofa bed and a laundry room. On the second floor the bedroom located with king size bed and walkin closet and a bathroom with an oversized shower.
Each apartment has big sliding windows, with mosquito nets and black out courtains, the windows have access to a french balcony and gives you great vistas of the beautiful beach of Great Bay.

If you enjoy shopping then Wathey Square is the area for you! There are many stores and boutiques as well as a beautiful beach that will keep everyone entertained for hours on end. The water is clear and the beach is very clean so there is nothing to worry about…
