Not so long ago, September meant back-breaking hard work in the tobacco fields of Norfolk County.

 

Farm work is still hard — and this month we celebrate the people who put food on our tables.

The late Irene Anderson painted a beloved image of the golden era of tobacco farming. Many Norfolk County residents cherish this painting. Delhi Harvest Fest is this weekend.

Ontario’s largest fair

Norfolk County Fair & Horse Show is Ontario’s largest fair held outside of a city.

Slated for October 2 through 8, don’t miss grandstand performances from Dean Brody (Oct 5) and Chantal Kreviazuk (Oct 6).

If you go to one fair this year, Norfolk County Fair is the place to visit.

Until frost hits the farm fields of Norfolk County, our farmers will continue to harvest produce, including everbearing strawberries. No offence, California, but ours are much tastier and didn’t need a passport to get here.

A devastating frost hit Norfolk County’s apple crop and sour cherry orchards this spring, so unfortunately we are short on those items. But there are still lots of other fruit and vegetables, so…
