Toronto Downtown Hotel Le Germain

Toronto Downtown Hotel Le Germain is set amid the high energy and upbeat excitement of Maple Leaf Square.

Toronto Downtown Hotel Le Germain is a sleek urban Toronto destination where NHL Hockey and NBA Basketball fans, city dwellers, concert revellers, busy professionals and frequent travellers gravitate. The newly built urban-lifestyle zone is distinguished by contemporary architecture and design. It features the city’s most significant public art investment, an expansive food emporium, fine and casual dining and shopping opportunities. The $500-million development was conceived and constructed by Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment, Cadillac Fairview Corporation Limited and Lanterra Development Corporation. The entrée of Hôtel Le Germain Maple Leaf Square by Groupe Germain celebrates one of the development’s most significant recent milestones to completion.

Toronto Downtown Hotel Le Germain offers tranquil guestrooms, a contemporary meeting and event-space collection, exclusive full-floor guest lounge, inspired fitness facilities and a bijoux lobby bar balance the bustle of the nearby arena, residential towers, offices and shops.

“The combination results in a perfect blend that delivers an unforgettable guest experience,” says Hôtel Le Germain Maple Leaf Square General Manager Paul de La Durantaye about the mixed-use development. “Modern travellers value refinement, restorative comfort and stylish serenity. With this hotel opening, they will equally appreciate the proximity and vibrancy of this major entertainment venue. Amid this excitement, ours is a discreet retreat.”

Approach
The essence of the Maple Leaf Square community is first reflected in permanent public artworks commissioned by Cadillac Fairview, Lanterra Developments and Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment that impress on arrival. Canopy is a 90-metre light sculpture inspired by the experience of walking through the dappled light of a forest, abstracted from the geometry of leaves. Connection is an array of responsive luminaires integrated into a pedestrian bridge, used to create oscillations of colour and geometry based on human movement. The rigid structure of the bridge is transformed into a fluid entity, transmitting the rhythm of the crowd to its surroundings.

Street-view, the Toronto Downtown Hotel Le Germain is distinguished by the ebony marble layer that wraps its exterior and leads to a glimmering glass-and-metal facade. Architecturally eye-catching, its exterior conveys strength and timelessness. Sheer, gleaming front doors signal an open and inviting mood. This two-story glass entry floods the foyer with natural light by day.

Foyer
Hôtel Le Germain Maple Leaf Square’s striking interiors are created by architects LEMAYMICHAUD Architecture and Design, in harmonious Le Germain style. In the main lobby, rift-cut ash stained in the warm brown’s shades combines with crystallized glass and dramatic sheers to distinguish reception. Leather-clad columns and metallic tile flooring are naturally lit from outside by a dramatic window wall. Strands of coloured lights embedded in the lobby floor glisten. Precision acoustic panels ensure an intimate atmosphere within the grand setting. Warmth, comfort and sophistication result. A 40-seat lobby bar features comfortable furnishings with up-beat accents as well as a large share-table to take in the action cast on six 52-inch televisions screens. A significant, custom lighting installation now in development by Australia’s Yellow Goat, called The Knot, will in time complete the grand lobby.

The guestroom corridors are anchored by an elliptical glass column transcending the hotel’s core. With a view to the lobby, the MVP Zone on the second level is exclusive to hotel guests and features expansive windows, hardwood flooring, distinctive European furniture, varied seating options and a series of Artemide Italian chandeliers.

Stay
Bright and inviting Hôtel Le Germain Maple Leaf Square guestrooms range in size from 400 to 1,500 square feet. Layered details define the stay: through task-lit, ample and ergonomic workspaces; complimentary Wi-Fi; windows that open; glass enclosed rainfall showers; luxurious Frette linen and goose-down bedding. Above the beds in each room, oversized photographic images shot by Matthew Plexman artfully portray Toronto’s NHL, NBA and MLS professional athletes. A puck inspired armchair in each room is offset by honeyed wood built-in decor, warmed silver carpet, deep black accents and a rich black feature wall. A Lutron system provides touch-button ambient lighting throughout.

Meet
Five contemporary meeting and event spaces combine to offer a total of 4,600 square feet. Function rooms, public spaces and suites are sophisticated, contemporary with cutting-edge technology and high-quality finishes. For example: the Defensive Zone and Offensive Zone are both functional and efficient meeting venues, equipped with retractable screen, sunscreens and opaque motorized shades. The Penalty Box is enlivened with light from immense windows that overlook the main entrance to Air Canada Centre. Natural light floods through floor-to-ceiling window walls while upholstered acoustic wall panels enhance privacy, atmosphere and productivity.

Sustainable
From an eco-engineering perspective, the building incorporates responsible energy features such as low-E windows to provide maximum light with minimum heat loss, dual-flush toilets in all guest rooms and domestic hot water heating comes from HVAC heat rejection.
