Morlens Musicians Perform at Carnegie Hall

Morlens Musicians Give a First Class Performance at their Carnegie Hall Debut

Young Anguillian musicians Kyiv Edwards (saxophone), Kasem Thompson (trombone) and Kamal Vanterpool (piano) gave a rousing performance of Amazing Grace at the American Protege International Competition Winners Recital at Carnegie Hall, New York, on Sunday April 1, 11:30 am. The dynamic musicians added their own Caribbean flair to the original piece which was composed by John Newton, bringing creative energy to the prestigious stage.

Lennox Vanterpool, Founder and Musical Director of Morlens School of Music reflects:

“What a refreshing and reassuring confidence builder for these youngsters. Coming from a small island, we have yet again proven that our young musicians can perform at the highest levels on the world stage.” Vanterpool also used the opportunity to sound an alarm for the need of a long over due performing arts center in Anguilla. “Presence of talent is obvious. What is less obvious is the excitement levels of influencers and leaders regarding a real home for the performing arts. I am hopeful that we can deliver this gift to our young musicians without delay. We already have the Steinway piano to roll on to center stage.”

The musicians enjoyed great support by a number of Anguillians and friends of Anguilla who came out in strong numbers to experience the extraordinary occasion. This milestone is a welcome addition to Anguilla’s growing mark on the international music scene.
