Latest News from GRENADA. Dec 22, 2009 Issue

Filed under: Caribbean, Grenada, Places to Travel — aherioslio @ 1:05 pm

December 22, 2009. (St. George’s, Grenada, WI)—The following are the most recent updates on Grenada’s tourism product.

MOUNT CINNAMON

There is the 21-room fully furnished and tastefully equipped Mount Cinnamon Resort where one, two and three bedroom suites and villas, provide scenic panoramic beach views and offer a beachside cabana club with water sports, tennis, spa treatments, swimming pool and gymnasium.

FOUR SEASONS RESORT & PRIVATE RESIDENCES, GRENADA

The Grenada Four Seasons Hotel and Residences project is being developed on 420 acres of land on the south east coast of Grenada. This includes the 81-acre Hog Island that has been joined to the mainland by a bridge.

The entire project comprises an 18-hole Championship Golf Course, a 130-Key Four Seasons Resort Hotel (including 2 Presidential Suites and 1 Royal Suite) with full supporting facilities having rooms of a single-story, low-density nature. It includes a marina with a sailing school and terrestrial research centre, yacht slips, tennis courts, clubhouses, several restaurants, bars, and 175 private residences and villas spread over the entire acreage. At present the developers are trying to phase the project so that elements that appear easier to implement can be focused on when the project resumes during the first quarter of 2010.

PRICKLY BAY WATERSIDE

Prickly Bay Waterside is one of Grenada’s high-end luxury tourism developments that opened in February 2009. The first phase comprises one, two, and three bedroom apartments, and duplexes. These apartments all have large balconies overlooking beautiful Prickly Bay, and many have their own plunge pools.

LE PHARE BLEU MARINA & RESORT

Le Phare Bleu Marina & Resort is beachfront resort comprising thirteen (13) units, designed with a blend of modern and traditional styles.

Service facilities are available to the yachting community on site, and the water sports facilities include sailing, snorkeling and wake boarding.

The resort is best suited for those independent travelers with a sense of adventure, who enjoy an active holiday experience, but do not want to miss out on high levels of comfort and service.

PORT LOUIS MARINA & CREOLE VILLAGE

Phase six of the flagship project is now in progress. It will have facilities and amenities that are designed to reflect local heritage while providing the best in international style and luxury. Upon completion the new marina will offer almost 400 berths for craft from 10m to 90m including 73 super yacht berths (25m+ in length).

BACOLET BAY RESORT AND SPA

Bacolet Bay Resort and Spa is spread over 41 acres of tropical gardens and comprises of a mix of apartments, villas and hotel cottages offering state-of-the-art facilities including spa and fitness center, tennis courts, beachfront bars and restaurants.

This 5-star luxury project was launched in February 2007 and construction of 133 units is rescheduled for completion at the end of 2010.

LEVERA RESORT DEVELOPMENT

This project is structured to create a world-class luxury eco-resort that meets industry best practices. It will be of low-density in synergy with its ecological goal to preserve the esthetics of the Levera National Park, Levera Beach and the protection of the turtle-breeding habitat.

The first phase of the project focuses on the hotel core itself. Construction of 55 freestanding suites and villas will start during the first quarter of 2010. These would be completed at the end of 2011 with a soft opening. Thereafter, up until 2013, an additional 150 villas will be built and sold during the later phases of the project.

THE POINT

Located on the south coast of Grenada, this 15-room resort property has two unspoilt white sand beaches offering protected swimming and snorkeling.

Upon competition it will offer, a high level of finish and modern architectural designs utilizing the best of the Caribbean, Mexican and regional design influences.

The Point is offering a unique investment opportunity to a select few. They anticipate completion by November 2010.

SALLY PORT ENTRANCE

Cruise ship visitors to Grenada for the 2009/2010-winter season will have easier access to the Inner Court Yard or Citadel of Fort George in St. George’s. This is due to the creation of a new experience where the Sally Port Entrance has been introduced to enhance the opportunity for visitors to relax and savour the beauty of the historic town.

St. George’s is often referenced as a ‘city on the hill’ where a colourful history was molded as the island changed hands among European powers. The new access allows for a better appreciation of Grenada’s rich and turbulent history spanning from the period of the indigenous inhabitants through to the colonial, post colonial and modern eras.

New Hiking Trail Opens in Morne Longue

Apart from the well known traditional hikes to Grand Etang, Seven Sisters Waterfall, Mt. Qua Qua and Concord Waterfall, visitors to Grenada will soon have an additional choice when it comes to the selection of trails to hike upon. The Morne Longue Fedon Camp Eco-Tourism attraction, which is being funded by the United Nations Trust Fund for Human Security is structured and conceptualized to restore livelihoods in a post Hurricane Ivan and Emily context.

The new trail makes it possible for visitors to experience a range of birds and monkeys in their natural habitat, as well as picturesque views of the Eastern seascape, and the ruins of Fedon Camp.

Other Product Update Briefs

The Annandale Waterfalls attraction is being upgraded to reflect a higher level of organized participation by members of the community. This is intent on lessening congestion among vendors and other service providers. A concept paper developed in that regard speaks of tailored tours, improved restrooms, the clearing and compacting of a parking area, and a community-based management structure.

Plans indicate that by the end of 2009, the St. George’s Tri-Centennial Park should be completed. This project involves the landscaping of the hillside over looking the Sendall Tunnel, the construction of a walkway, and the creation of an amphitheatre.

The Grand Anse Beach is slated for further enhancement by way of the construction of additional changing rooms, lockers, and shower booths. The provision of more thatched umbrellas for added shade for visitors is also part of this plan.

In terms of Fort Matthew, work is in progress regarding illumination plans, the introduction of a water supply, clearing of tunnels, and the establishment of rails and other safety measures.

In Carriacou, plans include the restoration of the Beausejour Windmill in a manner that will include gift shops, toilet facilities, and interpretation plaques. The Belair Park will have the installation of a wooden theatre with improvements to the staging component and the construction of tombs and headstones.

The Maroon & Regional String Band Music Festival is being planned for April 2010. Its primary objective is to preserve the island’s culture by having it showcased at a professional level. An experienced consultant has been sourced to help in the planning and implementation of the festival.

Interpretive Billboards have been designed, produced, and erected in Belair, Windward and Petite Martinique.

Julie, Julia & Jamie
—————————————————————–
December 21, 2009 - Ojai Valley Inn & Spa is bringing the hit
movie Julie & Julia to real life. Author Julie Powell and the
Jamie West, executive chef will team up for a unique cooking
weekend on January 23-24, 2010.

The special weekend includes author Julie Powell and Chef West in
an interactive cooking demonstration highlighting some of Julia
Child’s recipes, similar to those portrayed in the Hollywood film
Julie & Julia from Sony Pictures. This will be followed by a
sumptuous dinner dedicated to Julia Child’s recipes.

Chef West is well prepared for this authentic weekend. Julia
Child frequently dined in Chef West’s previous restaurants. She
was a guest on Chef West’s weekly cooking show on ABC-TV in Santa
Barbara. Chef West often ate lunch at her apartment that, as
expected, had her famous shadow board for utensils on the wall.

Chef West said, “A few years before her death, I drove her to a
Masters of Food and Wine Event in Carmel. She talked and I did
all the work! On the way to Carmel, we stopped and ate at the
In-N-Out Burger in Santa Maria. A young woman at the counter
quietly inquired if this was Julia Child. It was heat-warming to
see how people of all ages knew and respected Julia Child.”

In addition to the cooking demonstration and dinner, guests will
have an opportunity to talk at length with Julie Powell and Chef
West. They will receive a personalized copy of the book Julie &
Julia. And for those with travel partners who don’t share the
same culinary passion, complimentary golf is available Saturday
afternoon.

“This is a very special event for us,” said Janis Clapoff, the
Inn’s managing director. “Having Jamie and Julie under one roof
will make Julia Child’s recipes come alive. It will be a truly
magical time for those attending the event.”

The Julie, Julia & Jamie event is now available for booking with
reservations on a first come basis. For information contact Ojai

Outerbridge - Magical Moments in Time

Filed under: Norfolk County, Stratford, Hamilton, Brantford, Ontario, Toronto, Canada, Places to Travel — aherioslio @ 1:41 pm

Ted and Marion Outerbridge have combined real life experiences with a
unique fusion of magic, dance, and theatre ? and the result is Magical
Moments in Time. This world-class illusion show has played to sold-out
houses and standing ovations across Canada and in Europe, reaching into
the minds and hearts of audiences and taking them on a magical journey
through time. Ted and Marion Outerbridge?s extensive touring schedule,
recent ?Touring Artist of the Year? nomination, and the fact that 90% of
theatre presenters bring them back within two seasons, make it clear that
they are the most popular illusion show with Canadian audiences.

Magical Moments in Time is a reflection of day-to-day life that the whole
family can relate to. Have you ever felt so absorbed by television that
you wonder where all the hours went? Marion climbs into a television and
then she is gone! Have you ever wished you could change something that
happened in the past? Ted and Marion travel back in time ? with the help
of a seven-foot-tall alarm clock ? and they bring the entire audience with
them: first they travel back to last year, then to the 1960s where Ted
impersonates a ?psychic? game show host, and finally by hundreds of years
where the audience is part of a medieval ritual.

The press in Europe has called Ted & Marion Outerbridge ?champions of
magic!? In Canada Magical Moments in Time has been hip enough to appear on
TV shows from Mystery Hunters to MuchMusic, important enough to make the
front pages from the Guelph Mercury to the National Post, and so powerful
that it has even been performed on the radio, from Country & Western to
CBC? no kidding!

In Ted and Marion Outerbridge?s Magical Moments in Time, comedy meets
mind-bending illusions, making for a uniquely bewitching and hilarious
evening of entertainment. Ted and Marion don?t just play the spotlight,
they come to life in it ? and then share it with audience members,
inviting them to experience the magic up close and on stage. Whether it?s
Ted changing places with Marion in a split second, or reading minds and
traveling invisibly to appear ?out of nowhere? in the middle of the
audience, Ted and Marion Outerbridge hold audiences spellbound and leave
them hungry for more.

Don’t slash budgets!…warns Caribbean Marketer

DON’T SLASH BUDGETS, WARNS CARIBBEAN MARKETER

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados (December 13, 2009) - Young Barbadian marketing consultant Marita Greenidge is warning companies not to slash their marketing budgets in today’s recessionary environment. She advises that such times are when businesses should become more strategic about how marketing dollars are spent.

The 26 year-old Greenidge, a founder of the Barbados-based marketing consulting firm Crimson-Jade Consulting, is part of the executive management team and marketing advisor to the Barbados Business Enterprise Corp. (BBEC) which manages the new Barbados Entrepreneurs’ Venture Capital Fund.

“Marketing gets customers in the door so slashing budgets randomly without careful thought and analysis is not prudent. You have to ensure that the money spent creates value for the enterprise - and that means re-evaluating marketing strategies to determine what gives the biggest bang for precious marketing bucks,” says Greenidge, who holds an MBA in Marketing & Entrepreneurship from Simon Graduate School of Business, University of Rochester in New York.

Greenidge, who was in St. Lucia last week attending the 18th Caribbean Media Exchange on Sustainable Tourism (CMEx), lamented that too often companies fail to integrate their marketing strategies with company objectives, leading to a waste of resources.

“That’s why it often seems so easy to cut the money being spent on marketing,” she said, encouraging companies to spend more time instead developing marketing plans clearly targeted at company goals. “We need to understand who our customers are, what price and product benefits are most appealing to them and which marketing channels and distribution methods are most appropriate for each group. Doing this helps develop more targeted marketing strategies, trimming away the fat and creating a leaner marketing charge that can withstand the pressures of any economic downturn,” she said.

At the recent launch of the Barbados Entrepreneurs’ Venture Capital Fund, Barbados Prime Minister David Thompson announced a government guarantee on any principal amount invested in the fund. BBEC is actively engaged in seeking private sector investment - local, regional and international - now that this government guarantee has been announced.

The Venture Capital Fund promises to quickly respond to the investment needs of entrepreneurs whose ideas have the “DNA of an elephant”. Almost 40 local businesses are expected to benefit from the fund over the next year.

The Image MillTM and Les Chemins invisiblesTM

Robert Lepage’s Image MillTM and Cirque du Soleil’s Les chemins invisiblesTM have significantly contributed to the success of Québec City’s 2009 tourist season. According to a study conducted by the City of Québec, the shows also generated considerable economic benefits.

The Image MillTM

The study determined that 578 000 different spectators attended the Image MillTM show in the summer of 2009. Approximately 72% of those were visiting from outside the Québec City region: 62.4% from elsewhere in Quebec, 4.4% from the rest of Canada, 1.5% from the United States and 4% from abroad. Approximately 70% of visitors listed this activity as the reason for their visit (21% as the main reason and 49% as one of the reasons).

Les Chemins invisibles TM

As for Les Chemins invisiblesTM, the study determined that 514 500 different people attended the performance. Visitors from outside of the region (travelling over 40 kilometres) made up 66% of the spectators, broken down as follows: 48% from elsewhere in Quebec and 18% from outside of Quebec (7.4% from the rest of Canada, 4% from the United States and 6.6% from abroad). Interesting fact: 38% of the spectators were under 45 years of age and a greater number of families attended the Cirque du Soleil show than the Image Mill™ show.

Economic Benefits

According to a widely used calculation method, it is estimated that the two events generated $47 M, created or maintained 1 052 jobs and earned the federal and provincial governments $3.3 M and $6.6 M, respectively.
